
The greatest architects in the United Kingdom once puzzled over the design of West Kentish Town Estate:
Sir Leslie Martin, architect of the Royal Festival Hall
Sandy Wilson, architect of the British Library
Patrick Hodgkinson, architect of the Brunswick Centre
In the late 1950s these three developed a highly sophisticated scheme that would have been the forerunner of the later great housing estates of Camden: Alexandra Road, Dunboyne, Mansfield Road, Highgate New Town, Polygon, Maiden Lane and Branch Hill.
Unfortunately the scheme was deemed too complex and expensive and was shelved, to be replaced when the Conservatives got into power with the current scheme built of pre-fabricated panels, built for maximum speed of economy and economy.
