Housing for Google tech bros

Flats in the new development on Crogsland Road are being sold to employees of the new Google office down in Kings Cross for large sums.

The site was owned by Camden Council and forms a part of the Council’s Community Investment Programme (CIP), but what does this development of public land offer to local people?

The planning approved scheme showed beguiling pictures of an elegantly curved facade. As is so typical, the developer has downgraded the design and the curve has been built out of straight sections, which looks naff. The proportions of the window and balcony openings are different from the visualisation and as a result it looks top heavy and clunky in comparison. The planners have not done a good job here holding the developer to the permitted design.

Planning application 2020/5063/P:

New Homes – delivery of 115 new homes to help meet local need and deliver Camden’s ambitious housing targets.

Affordable Homes – provision of 26 affordable homes.

Most of the homes on offer are being marketed to those of much higher salaries than most Camden residents.

Nearby at Camden Goods Yard there are more examples of very expensive flats unaffordable for people who need homes in Camden.

“more stitch-ups between the local politicians and the shite property developers” says one local resident.
